Sing the Nation A successful first ever After Hours late night opening at the National Media Museum (Sing the Nation – Choir and public join together to sing at the National Media Museum after hours late night opening event) Songsters in Bradford joined the UK’s biggest sing-along at the National Media Museum last night as part of the Museum’s first ever After Hours late night opening programme. In collaboration with Sing the Nation, a festival which unites the UK through song, the National Media Museum interpreted two of its current exhibitions, Live by the Lens. Die by the Lens and Sunny Snaps, through the power of song. The evening led by a live Sing the Nation choir who encouraged the audience to leave their inhibitions at the door and get vocal. The first exhibition used as song inspiration was Live by the Lens. Die by the Lens which explores the complex world of film publicity and brings together the diverse ways in which film stars are represented in the media. Sunny Snaps is the second exhibition to provide the singing subject matter and celebrates beach and street photography looking at the commercial portrait photographer active in the heyday of the British seaside. The Sing the Nation festival culminates on Sunday 24 August when the Olympic torch will be passed from Bejing to London. Cities across the country will celebrate the Olympic Handover with mass sings led by community choirs. In Bradford, the celebrations will take place in Centenary Square at 14.45 and people will be able to sing until their heart’s content in what is set to be the UK’s biggest sing-along For further information, please visit www.nationalmediamuseum.org.uk
