Long evenings, sunny days and the smell of green grass can only mean one thing – yes, the picnic season is upon us! To celebrate one of the nation’s favourite family pass times, The Children’s Society is launching their first National Picnic Week this August from 11 -17. The Children’s Society is calling on the families and friends to hold a picnic for childhood. Picnics are a great way to spend quality time together, relaxing and playing games. The charity is launching the week with the unveiling of a range of one-off specially designed picnic benches by celebrities such as Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, Linda Barker, Scott Henshall and Wayne Hemingway. Penny Nicholls from The Children’s Society comments: “Most of us remember the enjoyment of a childhood picnic. The Children's Society is calling on everyone to organise a picnic this summer with family and friends. It couldn’t be easier - all you need is a patch of grass or a picnic bench, some sandwiches and snacks to enjoy a fun day out making memories that last a lifetime.” From contributions to The Children's Society’s Good Childhood Inquiry, many people commented that some of their happiest childhood memories included going on picnics and playing outdoors. Why not invite others and raise some money for the charity or visit one of The Children’s Society’s shops to snap up some real picnic bargains – from hampers to picnic blankets.
